An angry mob on Wednesday morning broke into Kabwazi police unit in Dedza and killed a suspect whom they accused had killed their relative in a robbery attack.

Ironically, the relative in mention is still alive at Dedza District Hospital where he was admitted, according to Dedza deputy police publicist Cassim Manda.

The deputy publicist has since identified the victim as 46 year- old Lemasi Mbiri Thomas from Mothera 2 village in the area of Traditional Authority Chilikumwendo in the district.
Manda said Thomas was arrested for an offence of theft on Tuesday.

“On Wednesday, a mob came to the police  station asking law enforcers to release to them the suspect claiming that he was responsible for the death of their relative who he assaulted while trying to rob him of a bicycle,”  said Manda.

According to Manda, after the police refused to release the suspect, the mob then organized themselves and stated eventually broke into the police unit.

“They dragged the suspect out and killed him using different objects,” added Manda.

No arrests have been made so far in connection to the murder.

Police and group village headman (GVH) Kabwazi from T/A Kachere in the district have since condemned the killings.

In the same district last week, a mob from Njuchi and Mpira villages in Traditional Authority Kaphuka brutally killed a suspected thief.
